Dog-Friendly Beach Vacation

A family vacation can be an amazing opportunity to bond with your loved ones and relax in a fresh, exciting location. However, when you realize you have to leave your furry friend behind, the vacation can suddenly begin to feel a little less fun. After all, your dog really is another member of the family. That’s why we want to help you plan a totally dog-friendly vacation in the Gulf Shores area. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about planning a completely dog-friendly vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Whether you’re after Gulf Shores dog-friendly rentals, or you need suggestions of great places to go with your pooch, we are here to help.

Good Walks for You and Your Dog

One of the best things you can do with your pup is to head out on a nice long walk through the beautiful trails of Alabama that surround Gulf Shores.

Gulf State Park

There are plenty of gorgeous, extensive hiking trails in the Gulf State Park where your dog will be more than welcome. The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is a great place to start. This remarkable hike will take you through six distinct ecosystems and over 15 miles of land. This is without a doubt one of the best nature trails for wildlife spotting in the Gulf Shores Area.

If you do head to the Gulf State Park with your pooch, be careful to avoid bike trails and horseback riding trails, where dogs are prohibited for safety reasons. You’ll also need to avoid stores, food service areas, and pools.

Graham Creek Nature Preserve

This expansive preserve is home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife. Covering 500 acres of land, there are multiple trails for hiking that are dog friendly. Notice the luscious pine savannah habitat in the area with its wildflowers and pitcher plants! You’ll also find a variety of water and land sports in the Preserve, so you may wish to come back without your pooch to enjoy kayaking, golf, or archery with the family.

Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge

This gigantic 6,000-acre wildlife refuge is filled with fascinating endangered species and some largely us disturbed coastal land. For nature enthusiasts, this refuge is not to be missed. The refuge is dog-friendly, so you and your family, including your pup, can enjoy roaming this natural oasis while in Gulf Shores.

Fort Morgan Historic Site

The Fort Morgan Historic Site is one of the most famous sights in the Gulf Shores area. The incredible masonry fort was built between 1819 and 1833 to guard over the important bit of land where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico. The fort offers a range of activities and immersive experiences including an escape room and a costume tour.

However, if you wish to bring your dog along, you’ll find a range of outdoor sports that are dog friendly. With plenty of hikes, a picnic area, and a beach to explore, you’ll be able to bring your pup along if you forgo the indoor portion of the Fort Morgan experience.
