Gulf State Park Fishing Pier

Gulf State Park Fishing Pier

At the very southern edge of Alabama sits a stunning vacation getaway destination. Gulf Shores boasts brilliant gulf views and diverse natural beauty.

This beauty is well-represented at the Gulf State Park. The park consists of 2,500 square miles of family-friendly attractions, hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and many other outdoorsy things to do.

The park is the pinnacle of adventurous living, located right near our beachfront vacation rentals on Gulf Shores.

An Overview of Gulf State Park

Gulf State Park is a must-see for visitors to the area. Explore the greens of the Refuge Championship Golf Course, the 25 miles of backcountry trails, and the Nature Center museum and shop.

Activities and attractions include a touch tank in the education center, geocaching workshops, animal encounters, stargazing, and more.

The Fishing Pier

The centerpiece of the park is long pier – the biggest in the Gulf of Mexico. Officially titled Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier, visiting this pier is an experience on its own. Spend a couple of hours fishing and learning at one of the most popular attractions in the park.

Grab bait, tackle, and other fishing gear at The Bait and Tackle Shop located onsite. The helpful guides offer items for sale as well as fishing equipment for rent. Available purchases include souvenirs, local merchandise, bait, fishing line, and tools. You can find a nearby concession area with indoor seating if you want a snack and a brief escape from the sun and heat.

Revitalized a number of years ago after its predecessor was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the pier has a number of new – and welcome – additions. Due to the pier’s impressive size, it features a relaxation station halfway out. Take a seat on the bench or use the restrooms before heading down to the end of the pier. The pier now offers a more than 20,000-foot fishing area, open to the public to use.

The Gulf State Park pier one of the best things to do as a family, and a great way to have close encounters with nature. If you want a relaxed and easy afternoon dangling your toes over the water, this has got to be one of the best ways to do it.
