Popular Places to Jet Ski

There are a lot of places that locals will tell you about if you mention to them that you are going out on a jet ski adventure. Two of the most well-known are Robinson and Bird Islands, both of which are owned by the city of Orange Beach, Alabama, and are open to the public. You can find these islands – with their crystalline waters and crisp white sandy beaches – in Perdido Pass. They make for idyllic spots to park your jet ski and go for a swim.

Gilchrist Island is another local favorite. It is privately owned and is right next to Bird and Robinson Islands. Although you cannot land on it and explore, it is stunning to behold while you are riding past on your jet ski.

The smallest Orange Beach Island is Walker Island, which you can get to by jet ski. She is just as pretty as her big sisters and offers a nice spot for swimming.

Looking to hit up a sandbar or beach? Ride along Old River on the southern side of Ono Island. This takes you along the Alabama/Florida dividing line, and it is a cool spot for finding supplies, food, and calm places to just relax for a bit before hopping back on your jet ski rental.

If you want to go the more rural route, head up Portage Creek, just west of Wolf Bay. This takes you west, going past The Wharf Entertainment Center and into both rural and residential Gulf Shores areas. You will find a ton of nifty little inlets and bayous to explore along your way.

Go to the eastern end of Old River and stop off near Rabbit Island. It is very secluded and therefore offers a lot of privacy and serenity. You won’t see as many people as you do at the other Orange Beach Islands since this one is more off the beaten waterway.

Florida Point is cool to behold with its warm white sands and can be found in Perdido Pass. It is a beautiful spot for stopping just to appreciate nature and is a safe place to stop when you need a break.

Wolf Bay is a ‘must’ for jet ski riders. The waters there are wide open for wave runners, whether you’re going at it alone or in a pack with other jet ski riders. It is also an access point for a lot of bayous, inlets, and creeks that are worthwhile to explore.

While you are going along, head east past Old River and into the Big Lagoon. This is Florida territory and is known for being a great spot to jet ski. You can head along Dolphin Pass and find this little out-of-the-way slice of heaven. It is easy to spend the entire day running its teal waters and fish.

When you need to get more supplies, refuel your jet ski, or get some grub, Bear Point Marina off the Bay La Launch caters to your needs. Flipper’s Restaurant is right there and is known for its mouthwatering meals that will keep you going for the rest of the day.
